Citizen Canine is a non-profit network of individuals and organizations working together to promote responsible dog ownership and support the dog-owning community in Greater Victoria. Our three areas of focus are advocacy, public education, and canine community building.
Dogs are an important part of many families in Greater Victoria, yet public policy does not always provide much support for people with dogs. In some communities, people and their dogs are unduly denied access to parks, public transportation, and even a place to live. Citizen Canine is working to draw attention to these issues, with the goal of improving public access, acceptance, and welfare of dogs and dog owners in this region.
Every person who joins Citizen Canine adds to our influence and effectiveness with local policy-makers. As a member you will be kept informed about issues affecting dog owners as well as upcoming dog-related events. Citizen Canine sends out informational e-mails to members from time to time, as well as a quarterly e-newsletter packed with interesting and timely articles.
You will find plenty of information and discussion about dogs in our forum - with topics ranging from lost dogs, to training, and even dog-friendly accommodation. Feel free to jump right in with questions or responses of your own!
Check out our listings for upcoming dog-related events. To submit a listing, send an e-mail to Joanna.

Citizen Canine's Dog-Related Events Calendar limits listings to dog-related events like fundraisers, lectures, seminars, etc. Sorry, we do not have room to list all training classes for dog owners.
Citizen Canine does not endorse any particular dog obedience trainer or club; however, we strongly encourage participation in basic dog obedience classes, and do endorse the benefit of positive dog obedience training for both owner and dog.
